“A lot of time and research was carried out to find an organisation that received very little or no government assistance because it was perhaps not considered necessary or worthwhile. My search lead me to Very Special Kids in Glenferrie Road, Malvern. I arranged for a meeting and tour of the premises and just knew this is where I wanted to focus my fundraising. It was also then when I relived the time my first daughter was born (1979), critically ill and with a slim chance of survival, and recalling those horrific days and months with no outside support offered. I thought those 12 months were tough, and I am so grateful that it was only 12 months.
My daughter is now living a normal happy life with her husband and their 2 children. How lucky am I?” ...Pamela Yardney
On the night of 30th August, 2008....
The man of radio and TV himself, John Blackman, took charge of the evening to the delight of everyone there.
Ray Becher from VSK gave a superb presentation about Very Special Kids which brought home the reality of how these families cope with children relying on 24 hour 7 day a week care.
The live auctions, run by Richard Wright from Metropole and assisted by John Blackman, proved to be a very entertaining event of the evening, and Nicole Vathis did a magnificent job of modelling a signed Collingwood Football jumper, which certainly had the bids flying in.
The dance floor made room for those wanting to kick up their heels to the music provided by the fabulous Brian Fitzgerald Band, and once the heel kicking started, there was no stopping.
In all, and being our first "Metropole Charity Ball", it was not only a fun packed evening, it was a successful event.
